Compositing 101: If you don't know this it will change your life swear to God

THE PROJECT:
You have finished modeling, texturing and animating your turtle, it is looking spot and now you want to composite it over some footage of underwater you have created
separately.

THE PROBLEM:
You render out TGA frames to composite in shake or after-effects ( or Photoshop for stills )

Here is your frame turtle_0034

Here is your background sea footage:

The problem is this horrible faint black edge that you can't seem to get rid of:

I have read some crazy solutions in books and tutorials with people doing selections in photoshop and feathering it and all sorts of things...where actually the solution is very easy.

What is happening is called pre-multiplying, and basically the edge of your model is getting faded to black, or whatever other colour has been set as your camera background.

All you need to do is untick Premultiply you find it here:

Maya software render:

Mental Ray render:

then you have happy turtles:

Why this is not the default setting I have no idea - hope this changes your life; happy rendering
